About Me
Hey there!
I’m Megan Malloy (she/her), a queer & neurodivergent (ND) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW 133113) in the state of California. I am a graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia with a Master of Social Worker (MSW) with a Clinical Concentration and of the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology and a BA in Gerontology, receiving academic honors on the Dean’s List and participating in Psychology Club, UNI Advocates for Alzheimer’s, and as a tutor. I am passionate about working with adults and older adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, and more. I am queer & ND affirming and especially enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ & ND folx. Having ADHD myself I have a unique experience in understanding what it is like and how to work with ADHD, not against it. I often find that my ADHD is a strength in my work as a therapist, helping me to unlock patterns and follow complex issues, weaving creativity and clinical reflection. I inform my practice through a lens of humility and seek to continue to grow my knowledge and practice continuously, centering my values as a social worker. Being ND & queer myself I recognize the harmful impact of not knowing your identity or feeling confident in it, feeling as if you are not safe to express who you are, and how some therapy doesn’t meet all needs. I believe strongly in the power of connection and empathy to help people make meaningful changes in their lives. Growth is at the center of what I do.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my partner and pets, gardening, and reading. I have previous experience both outpatient and inpatient behavioral health, older adult care, within medical settings, and individual and family therapy that has allowed me to grow my therapeutic skill set in a variety of settings and have worked within the social work field for eight years and as a therapist for four. Additionally I have had the honor of providing mentorship and supervision to MSW students and interns to support clinical growth and excellence within the profession.

How did Megan Malloy Therapy come to be?
My approach. I don’t believe in one-size fits all approaches, scripted responses (especially cliches, with the exception of every once in a while when cliches really fit), tone deaf recommendations (like going for a walk when it feels like the sky is falling) or surface-level affirmations as treatment. I am passionate about creating real connection, finding understanding, and promoting change - that includes challenging you to grow. I know that you have your pick of therapy providers, and not every therapist is a good fit for every client. I want you to find the right fit. I often joke that finding the right therapist is a bit like dating, sometimes the first person you go on a date with isn’t your right match. At the end of the day, you reaching your goals and feeling better is my main goal - and so if I’m not the right fit let’s find who is.
I won’t see you as just another number or someone who is broken, but as a real person dealing with real stuff. I want to take all that I have learned and continue to learn and use that to guide our work together. That means I integrate theory, therapy interventions, my own life experience, and you as an individual into our work. I value honesty with kindness, meaning I won’t hide from you what I see or think, but I’m going to deliver it with empathy, humor, and kindness. Because simply, nothing changes if nothing changes.
I wanted a values-driven way to deliver clinical services. I was tired of corporate folks dictating care without consideration for who it effected most - those who are seeking help. I have spent years learning, understanding, and embodying what it means to be a social worker providing clinical services. Through evaluation and seeking feedback, I can make changes to practices in real time.
